The Good: Things we like about NPS

Please add at least one thing to this list - just for the fun of it.

  1.  Relationships with students are clearly a focus, not just mechanistic programs
  2. Staff are clearly passionate about this school
  3. All the aspects senior staff have to attend to, certainly make my head swim. I respect and admire that they can do that!
  4. The NAPLAN results are encouraging
  5. I like how Student Centered Learning fosters’ kids internal motivations, that a job well done is its own reward. (I could see an over-emphasis on short term external rewards at one point.)
  6. Independent Public School would be good.
  7. Brett getting so much infrastructure that other schools didn’t. And new buildings are good to have happening
  8. Well done for taking so many prac students, and making good connections with uni
  9. The Speech pathology initiative
  10. The 4 staff in charge of our kids’ classes seem to really be doing a good job. And Trish Allen probably saved our daughter's school career, by insightfully tapping into her sense of humour, and drawing out her creative side.
  11. David Hall has an excellent way in the classroom, and a knack for establishing boundaries for difficult kids
  12. Jennifer Murace is more than a librarian, quite the social glue for many students.
  13. The K-P group are excellent. Alison Rennie’s structured ways, are so clear, and give the littlies such an excellent foundation. Donna Selby-Lowe's art and creativity grabs kids imagination, Miss Parker-Smith, Wanita Curtis' imagination-grabbing approach, and Asher Mars gentle approach has a core of steel – very impressive. And all the rest of them are great!!!
  14. Emphasizing Nyoongar culture and history is excellent to develop good understanding
  15. Staff are clearly dedicated to doing extra to lift the kids here.
  16. Breakfast club is a very generous and caring element
  17. The co-operative Playgroup
  18. Numero, and after school sports
  19. The task groups are a good idea, to have teams troubleshooting the behavior management and staff profiling, is excellent.
  20. A council that wants to actively make a positive difference :-)
  21. A P&C that really wants to help
  22. Parents committed to the school
  23. Some of the classroom teachers work really hard & creatively with parents so resolve issues and provide extra support for behavioural & learning difficulties.  They really care about the kids and their families beyond the classroom.
  24. I have been at the school since 2003 and and the main thing that stands out to me is how blessed I feel each of my kids have been with the teachers they have had looking after them over the years.  I have found the teachers approachable, so hard working and they have all had a genuine desire to bring out the best in the kids (I'll make a special mention of Miss Jose who was wonderful with Kristian last year).  I also agree that the K-P teachers are AWESOME and your list of 20 positives are spot on.
  25. Thought the extra sports on the oval and things like Zumba offered at lunchtime to keep the kids out of trouble and occupied under adult supervision is not only a benefit to the kids but yet more proof that the teachers go beyond the call of duty.
  26. The ability to name problems and deal with them before they become bigger is a real asset that should be encouraged.
